Aberdeen, S.D. --- The No. 21 Minnesota State soccer team completed the 2-1 comeback win over Northern State in double overtime, Friday night.
The Mavericks improved their record to 12-2-0 (9-2-0 NSIC) after their sixth straight conference win. Sophomore
Jenny Vetter scored the game-winning goal in the fifth straight match for MSU to gain the win over Northern State.
The Wolves scored the lone goal in the first half to take the 1-0 lead into the locker room at the half. Senior
Shianne Rosselli put away the penalty kick after the Mavericks committed a hand ball in the box for a yellow card.
The Mavericks scored 38 seconds into the second half to tie the match up 1-1 and eventually force overtime. Vetter took the ball from midfield at the start of the half, drove through the Northern State defense and then fed freshman
Allie Williams for her eighth goal of the season.
The first overtime went scoreless, but MSU came through in the second overtime session for the win. Vetter gathered a through ball from sophomore
Nadia Lowery and then chipped the ball up over the sliding goalkeeper for her seventh game-winning goal of the season.
Senior
Alexa Rabune (10-1-0) made six saves in the win after allowing a goal early in the match.
Minnesota State finished with a 19-13 shot advantage, including a 13-7 lead in shots on goal. The Wolves held the 8-2 corner kick advantage over the Mavericks in the match.
The Mavericks will play MSU Moorhead to finish out the weekend road trip in Moorhead, Minn., Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
