Moorhead, Minn. --- The No. 21 Minnesota State soccer team uses goals scored by three different players to blank MSU Moorhead 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks improved their record to 13-2-0 (10-2-0 NSIC) after recording their seventh straight win and ninth shutout on the season.
The visiting Mavericks scored the first goal and game-winning goal in the 30th minute of the first half. After a foul was called on the Dragons, junior
Molly Riley fed sophomore
Jenny Vetter for her team-leading 14th goal of the season that beat the goalkeeper to the low right corner of the net.
Minnesota State scored two more times in the second half to take the three-goal advantage. Senior
Bri Ciaccio headed in her third goal of the season off a corner kick from sophomore
Brynn Desens in the 61st minute. The final goal came off the foot of freshman
Allie Williams on a penalty kick because of a Dragon foul in the box. Williams' ninth goal of the season was put in the low right corner and came in the 75th minute.
Senior
Alexa Rabune (11-1-0) made the only save needed in the shutout win as she collected her sixth sole shutout of the season.
Minnesota State finished with a 26-9 shot advantage, including a 13-1 lead in shots on goal. The Mavericks also had 10 corner kicks to the Dragons one in the match.
Vetter has now scored a goal in the last seven matches with 10 total goals scored. She also leads the nation in game-winning goals with eight on the season and has scored the game-winning goal for the Mavericks in the last six matches.
The Mavericks will have a split weekend next weekend, first playing Augustana at The Pitch on Nov. 1 at 2:00 p.m. MSU will then travel to Wayne, Neb., to take on Wayne State on Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m., for their final regular season road match.
