#19 Mavericks Prevail at Home vs. Augustana

MANKATO, Minn. --- The No. 19 Minnesota State soccer team secured a 2-1 win over the Augustana Vikings Friday afternoon at The Pitch.

With their eighth straight win, the Mavericks improve to 14-2-0 (11-2-0 NSIC), while the Vikings fall to 12-3-1 (10-2-1 NSIC).

The Mavericks scored first in the third minute of the game when sophomore Nadia Lowery took a ball that was sent in and redirected by freshman Abby Begin, who was credited with the assist. The Mavericks would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute when sophomore Jenny Vetter took a long pass from Lowery and buried it in the lower right corner.

The Vikings got on the board in the 21st minute when senior Grace Behm scored with a shot to the upper right. Freshman Kelly Kleekamp was credited with the assist.

MSU's 2-1 lead would hold for the rest of the first half as MSU enjoyed a 12-6 advantage in shots and 3-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first half. 

The second half saw the Mavericks out shoot the Vikings 17-3, including a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal, but neither team could get one past the opposing goaltender as MSU held on for the 2-1 win. 

Senior Alexa Rabune (12-1-0) made one save and allowed one goal.

Minnesota State held a 29-9 shots advantage, including an 10-2 shots on goal advantage. The Mavericks also had seven corners to Augustana's six.

Vetter has now scored a goal in the last eight matches with 11 total goals scored.

The Mavericks will now travel to Wayne, Neb., to take on Wayne State on Sunday for their final regular season road match of the season. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
