Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State soccer team completed the weekend sweep with a 1-0 shutout win over Bemidji State, Sunday afternoon at The Pitch.
The Mavericks improved their record to 11-2-0 (8-2-0 NSIC) after their fifth stright win and the last three being shutout wins.
The match was scoreless at halftime as Minnesota State and Bemidji State battled for ball possession throughout the first half. MSU held a 7-5 shot advantage in the first half with senior goalkeeper
Alexa Rabune making three saves to keep the game tied.
The Mavericks scored the lone goal of the match in the 89th minute in the second half off the left foot of sophomore
Jenny Vetter. Vetter's 12th goal of the season came after she stole the ball at midfield and scored on an open net. The Beaver goalkeeper came off her line to try and beat Vetter to the loose ball, but Vetter beat her to the spot and then beat the two defenders back in the box. Vetter now has 12 goals and six assists for 30 points on the season with half of the goals scored being game-winning goals.
Rabune
(9-1-0) tied her season-high with eight saves in the shutout win. This is Rabune's fifth sole shutout on the season and the 23rd of her career, which is second most in MSU history. Her 35th career win is also now tied for second most ever at MSU.
Minnesota State finished with a 19-10 shot advantage and the teams were even in shots on net at eight a piece. The Beavers held the 7-2 corner kick advantage over the Mavericks in the match.
The Mavericks will now hit the road for the first time in two weekends after finishing their longest homestand. MSU will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State on Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m., and then will play MSU Moorhead in Moorhead, Minn., on Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
