Minot, N.D. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (14-5, 7-4 NSIC) took to the road to face off with the Minot State Beavers (1-18, 0-10 NSIC), and won the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16). The win is the fifth straight for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks struck first in the opening set, opening up an early 10-5 lead behind the strength of the front line and the attack of
Morgan Olson and Jessica Nelson. Minnesota State carried that early lead to a 25-21 set victory to take the first point of the match.
An early 5-2 push from the Mavericks highlighted a second set which saw the Beavers fight back into things several times, but ultimately the front line was too much for Minot State to handle, and Minnesota State took the set 25-21. The third set saw the Mavericks pile together several 4-5 point runs and immediately put an end to an comeback hopes from the Beavers, taking the set with a commanding 25-16 score.
Olson finished the match with 19 kills while
Anissa Janzig recorded 11 and
Nelson finished with 10.
Dana Schindler finished with a match high 45 assists to lead the Maverick offense and Minnesota State recorded seven blocks compared to only one from Minot State.
Next weekend the Mavericks will return home for matches against Northern State and Minnesota State University Moorhead Friday and Saturday with first serves scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
