Marquette, Mich. --- #7 Minnesota State got goals from seven different players and never trailed in skating to an 8-2 win at Northern Michigan in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Saturday at Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich.
The victory, which comes following Friday's 3-2 win, is the seventh win in the last eight games for the Mavericks and gives them a 21-6-1 overall record for 2018-19.
Goals from four different players got things going in the opening period for Minnesota State. Freshman forward
Julian Napravnik notched his fifth goal of the year (and first even-strength tally) at 1:07. The next two tallies, which came 37 seconds apart midway through the period, were credited to junior defenseman
Ian Scheid on a power play at 10:26 and sophomore center
Jared Spooner at 11:01. Northern Michigan junior defenseman
Philip Beaulieu found the back of the net with a power play shot from the point at 11:40, but junior center
Marc Michaelis finished off a nice passing play between him, Scheid and
Parker Tuomie at 19:41 for Minnesota State's second power play marker of the period.
Minnesota State's offensive assault continued in the second period with goals by
Shane McMahan at 10:22 and
Charlie Gerard at 14:23 coming before Northern Michigan responded at 16:21 on a goal from
Grant Loven making it a 6-2 Maverick lead.
An even-strength tally by
Dallas Gerads at 9:02 of the final period and McMahan's second goal of the game, which came on the power play at 19:30, closed out the scoring in the contest.
Freshman
Dryden McKay, who started for the tenth straight time for the Mavericks, had 22 saves and now stands 14-5-1 for the season. The Mavericks, who were three-for-nine in power play chances in the contest, were outshot 24-22.

Ian Scheid (1 goal and 1 assist). Freshman defenseman
Zak Galambos, who assisted on McMahan's power play goal, got his first career point in the win.
The eight goals scored tonight are the most scored by the Mavericks this year and the most since March 2 of last season in an 8-2 home league play-off victory over the University of Alaska.
Minnesota State continues WCHA action next weekend when Alabama Huntsville visits Mankato for games Friday and Saturday.
