MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State is upended by No. 2 Minnesota by a score of 5-1 Friday night at Verizon Center.
 
Minnesota scored four goals before Minnesota State could answer on its way to the win.
 
The Gophers scored the first two goals of the game in the first period. The first came at the 10:55 when junior blueliner Patti Marshall shot and scored from the blue line in the low left corner. The second goal came at the 18:15 mark when freshman winger Emily Oden beat freshman goaltender Abigail Levy top shelf after receiving a pass through the slot.

Minnesota added its third goal quickly in the second period on a power play as freshman forward Amy Potomack shot from the middle of the ice and beat Levy to her glove side.
 
Ten seconds into the third period, the Gophers extended the lead to 4-0 with sophomore forward Taylor Wente scoring. The Mavericks were able to get on the board at the 7:31 mark when freshman winger Brooke Bryant received a pass from junior forward Emily Antony close to the net and beat the Minnesota netminder Alex Gulstene to her stick side. Bryant's fifth goal of the season cut the deficit to 4-1. Minnesota was able to score again with less than two minutes left with sophomore defenseman Olivia Knowles scoring.
 
Freshman Abigail Levy made 28 saves throughout the game and now has a record of 8-9-4.
 
The Mavericks were outshot by the Gophers 33-19 and went zero-for-four on the power play, while Minnesota went one-for-four.
 
Minnesota State (8-9-4, 3-8-2-1 WCHA) will square off with Minnesota again tomorrow at 3:07 p.m., at Verizon Center.
