Aberdeen, S.D. --- The Minnesota State volleyball (11-6, 4-5 NSIC) team traveled to Aberdeen, S.D., to face the #3 ranked Northern State Wolves (16-1, 8-1 NSIC), and the lost the match 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18).
The first set began evenly before the Mavericks were able to claim a lead late in the set when a Wolves attack error resulted in a 23-20 advantage. After a kill from
Dana Schindler and another attack error, Minnesota State took the first set 25-21.
Northern State began the second set and took a late 22-17 lead before the Mavericks rallied and put together a 5-0 run to tie the set. Ultimately though, the Wolves took the second set 25-23 to tie the match at 1.
In the third set the Mavericks held an early edge before the Wolves scored five straight points to take a 10-6 lead. Northern State continued their strong run, eventually taking the set 25-13, and taking a 2-1 lead.
The Wolves again rushed out to an early lead in the fourth set, this time a 12-6 lead. Despite a push from the Mavericks, Northern State ultimately took the fourth set 25-18, and the match 3-1.
Morgan Olson led the Mavericks with 21 kills and added four blocks.Â
Micayla Porter topped Minnesota State in assists with 33 and
Mara Quam added 20 blocks.
Friday Oct. 5
th, the Mavericks return home to take on Minot State at 6:00 p.m., before welcoming the University of Mary Saturday at 2:00 p.m.Â
