MINNETONKA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team finished its weekend in Minnetonka, Minn., with a 1-1 record as it swept Minnesota Crookston 9-0 on Friday evening, before falling to Bemidji State 5-4 on Saturday evening.
The Mavericks now own a 5-12 overall record, including a 4-6 NSIC record.
MSU began the weekend with a 9-0 sweep of UMC. In the doubles matches, the Mavericks won all three matches by the score of 8-0. Junior
Erin Streeter and sophomore
Monika Ryan defeated Whitney Erickson and Reanne Erickson in the No. 1 doubles match, while seniors
Nina Riesselman and
Kylie DeWees bested Hanna Ruckheim and Adrianna Tiede in the No. 2 doubles match. Junior
Valerie Bresnahan and freshman
Tyanna Washa topped Hannah Zhao and Karlie Renney in the No. 3 doubles match as well.
The Mavericks then won all six of the singles matches against the Golden Eagles in straight sets to claim the 9-0 win. Streeter defeated Whitney Erickson 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match, while Ryan added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Reanne Erickson in the No. 2 singles match. DeWees posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tiede in the No. 3 singles match as well. Freshman
Camila Ojeda (No. 4 singles), Risselman (No. 5 singles) and freshman
Madeline Muotka (No. 6 singles) won the final three singles matches by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 to complete the sweep.
The Mavericks finished their weekend with a close battle against Bemidji State, but the Beavers were able to come away with the 5-4 win.
MSU began the dual winning one of the three doubles matches as BSU took an early 2-1 lead. The duo of Streeter and Ryan bested Zoe Lindgren and Ariadna Lopez-Slmo by the score of 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Both teams managed to win three singles matches in straight sets as the Beavers were able to finish the dual with the 5-4 win.
Streeter notched a 7-6, 6-1 win over Lindgren in the No. 1 singles match, while Ojeda posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Brooke Mimmack in the No. 4 singles match. Muotka added a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hannah Peterson in the No. 6 singles match as well.
Minnesota State wraps up its regular season schedule on Saturday, April 14, as it takes on Southwest Minnesota State and Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. The duals are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
