Plattsmouth, Neb. --- Minnesota State baseball extended its season-long winning streak to eight games with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday at Plattsmouth High School.

Minnesota State improved to 18-7 (13-3 NSIC) and Concordia-St. Paul fell to 13-9 (6-6 NSIC).

GAME 1 – Minnesota State 13, Concordia-St. Paul 2

Dalton Roach pitched six innings and the Minnesota State offense scored in six out of seven innings to defeat Concordia-St. Paul 13-2 in game one.

Roach (6-0), a senior right-hander, went six innings — limiting the Golden Bears to two runs on five hits. Roach struck out six and walked two in a 113-pitch effort, as he picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season.

With the score tied at 2-2 after two innings, the Mavericks took the lead for good in the top of the third inning when senior catcher Noah Bluth, who had walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a fly out, scored on a single to left field off the bat of sophomore designated hitter Tommy McDonald.

The Maverick offense, which took advantage of four errors by the Golden Bears, tallied 10 hits in the game, including a two-run home run to left field off the bat of senior shortstop Luke Waldek in the top of the fourth inning, increasing the Maverick lead to 5-2.

McDonald and sophomore second baseman Teddy Petersen combined for half of Minnesota State's hits, with McDonald tallying three and Petersen garnering two.

Four Mavericks recorded multiple RBI games: senior center fielder Josh Wenzel (3 RBI), Waldek (3), McDonald (2) and junior right fielder Tyler Berg (2).

Roach outdueled Gus Varland (3-1), the Golden Bears' starting pitcher, who entered the game with a 0.67 ERA and 16 hits allowed over 27 innings. Varland was charged with five runs (one earned) on three hits over four innings. Varland struck out four and walked four as the Mavericks forced him to throw 85 pitches.

Junior right-hander Sam Noel pitched a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the 13-2 victory.

GAME 2 – Minnesota State 5, Concordia-St. Paul 1

Aaron Rozek (4-1) pitched seven innings of one-run baseball and Ty Buck drove in three runs as the Mavericks completed the doubleheader sweep with a 5-1 win in game two.

Rozek, a senior left-hander, was dominant — limiting the Golden Bears to one run on five hits over seven innings, while striking out eight and walking three. Rozek set down his first nine batters faced, including five strikeouts, to start the game.

Buck, a sophomore first baseman, went 4-of-5 at the plate with a home run, one RBI and three RBI. Buck's homer, his first in a Maverick uniform, broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning and gave the Mavericks a lead they would not relinquish. With the Mavericks leading 3-1 in the seventh inning, Buck laced RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings to make the final score 5-1.

Senior designated hitter Noah Bluth also added an RBI for the Mavericks with a single in the first inning that got the Mavericks on the scoreboard.

Senior center fielder Josh Wenzel tallied two hits and two runs scored.
