FRIDLEY, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team picked up its third NSIC win of the season Sunday morning as it defeated St. Cloud State 6-3 in Fridley, Minn.
With the win, MSU improves 4-11, including a 3-5 NSIC record. With the loss, SCSU drops to 3-13, including a 3-5 league record.
The Mavericks began the dual winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. The duo of seniors
Nina Riesselman and
Kylie DeWees defeated Melissa Nierenhausen and Samantha Fitzpatrick by the score of 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match. Junior
Valerie Bresnahan and freshman
Tyanna Washa won the No. 3 doubles match as they bested Sommer Kopff and Abby Scheck by the score of 8-5.
Minnesota State then locked down the dual as it won four of the six singles matches to secure the 6-3 win. Junior
Erin Streeter defeated Fernanda Morais Quintino DosSantos 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, while DeWees topped Nierenhausen 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match. Risselman added a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ann Marie White in the No. 5 singles match and Washa tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win over Scheck in the No. 6 singles match.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, April 6, as they take on Minnesota Crookston in Minnetonka, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
