Dalton Roach and
Aaron Rozek shut down the Southwest Minnesota State offense as Minnesota State swept a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader by scores of 8-0 and 1-0 on Saturday at Westside High School.
The Mavericks improved to 7-4 (2-0 NSIC) and the Mustangs fells to (5-7, 0-2 NSIC).
GAME 1 – Minnesota State 8, Southwest Minnesota State 0
Senior right-hander
Dalton Roach (3-0) limited the Mustangs to two baserunners — one hit and one walk — over six scoreless innings as the Mavericks won game one 8-0. The Mavericks' all-time leader in strikeouts, Roach struck out eight and walked one.
Minnesota State's offense scored five runs in the fourth inning, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Senior center fielder

Luke Waldek each garnered two hits and two RBI. Sophomore infielder

Carter Elliott each contributed two hits to the Mavericks' total of 13.
Junior right-hander
Bobby Gauvreau pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning with two strikeouts to secure the win for the Mavericks.
Justin Clark (1-1) was tagged with the loss for the Mustangs after allowing six runs – all earned — on nine hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked four.
GAME 2 – Minnesota State 1, Southwest Minnesota State 0
Senior left-handed pitcher
Aaron Rozek (2-0) was dominant in game two — striking out 14 batters and walking none over seven scoreless innings as the Mavericks won 1-0. He limited the Mustangs to seven hits, including five singles.
The Mavericks scored the only run of the game in the third inning. Sophomore third baseman
Tory Miller drew a walk with one out. Miller then stole second base and came around to score on a single off the bat of senior center fielder
Josh Wenzel.
After Rozek was lifted to start the eighth inning, junior right-hander
Carlo Graffeo pitched the final two innings to earn the save. Graffeo held the Mustangs to two hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Freshman outfielder
Cam Kline tallied his first collegiate hit for the Mavericks.
John Bezdicek (1-2), who was on the short end of the decision for the Mustangs, struck out 11 batters while walking three. Bezdicek allowed three hits and the one run that was the difference in the game.
Minnesota State wraps up its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series with Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday. A doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., at Westside High School in Omaha, Neb.
