Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey led No. 5 Ohio State 2-1 at the end of two periods, but allowed two unanswered goals in the third period to suffer a 3-2 setback in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play on Saturday afternoon at Verizon Center.
 
After Minnesota State (5-24-1, 3-19-0-0 WCHA) and Ohio State (20-8-4, 13-5-4-3 WCHA) played a scoreless first period, Minnesota State got on the scoreboard at 11:00 of the second period when junior forward Rebekah Kolstad rocketed a slap shot from the right circle for her third goal of the season and her second in as many days. Senior forward Hannah Davidson and sophomore defenseman McKenzie Sederberg assisted on the play.  
 
After Rebecca Freiburger tied the game at 1-1 with a goal for the Buckeyes at 13:48, freshman forward Tristen Truax put the Mavericks back in front 2-1 at 18:19 of the second. Following a shot by Kolstad, Truax batted the rebound out of the air for her fourth goal of the season. Kolstad and Davidson assisted on the play.        
 
The game remained 2-1 going into the second intermission, but Minnesota State was unable to hold off a surging Ohio State, which outshot Minnesota State 16-2 in the third period and scored the final two goals of the game – making the final score 3-2. Charly Dahlquist tied the game at 2:59 and Emma Maltais scored the game winner at 13:13. 
 
Sophomore goaltender Chloe Crosby (4-10-1) made 36 saves for the Mavericks and Amanda Zeglen (3-1-0) stopped 13 shots for the Buckeyes.  
 
Minnesota State blocked over 20 shots for the second day in a row — tallying 24 in the game, including a game-high five by Sederberg.
 
Minnesota State went 0-of-4 on the power play and Ohio State finished 1-of-6.
 
The Mavericks were outshot 39-15 in the game. 
  
Minnesota State concludes the WCHA regular season with a two-game series against Minnesota Duluth next weekend at Verizon Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:07 p.m., on Friday and Saturday.
