MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State continues its win streak by defeating #6 Ohio State 3-0 Saturday night at Verizon Center.
Â
The Mavericks have now won four games in a row and the last time that happen was in the 2010-11 season from Nov. 5-Nov. 13.
Â
The first two frames of the game went scoreless as the Mavericks and Buckeyes were deadlocked in an evenly matched game. Freshman
Abigail Levy tallied 27 saves through those first two periods for the Mavericks.
Â
Minnesota State broke through for three goals in the third period. The first came on the Mavericks first power-play opportunity 3:12 into the period. Senior
Corbin Boyd passed through the crease from left to right and found freshman
Anna Wilgren wide open right beside the net. This was Wilgren's second goal and game-winning goal of the season. About ten minutes later, freshman
Brooke Bryant's shot was saved and as the puck trickled back into the center of the ice, senior
Megan Hinze rocketed her first goal of the season past Buckeye's netminder,
Andrea Braendli, to the right upper corner. The last goal came with less than three minutes to play when sophomore
Brittyn Fleming scored on an empty net for her third goal of the season, while Ohio State had their goalie pulled for an extra attacker.
Â
Levy (8-5-2) finished the night with 41 saves, while collecting her third straight shutout. She has not allowed a goal in 210:34 minutes with the last goal coming against Robert Morris at the 9:26 mark in the second period.
