Mavericks Travel To Michigan To Face Wildcats and Huskies

MANKATO, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women's basketball team will make its first road trip of the season to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats, Friday at noon (CT), and the Michigan Tech Huskies, Sunday at noon (CT).  

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (1-0, 0-0 NSIC), enters the week after opening its season against Waldorf Friday at Taylor Center, and winning the game 93-66.  

Impact Mavericks: Freshman forward Emmaline Polson led the Mavericks in scoring with 15 points and added four rebounds, a block, and a steal, in twelve minutes of action. Sophomore forward Brooke Tonsfeldt led the Mavericks in rebounds with nine, and in steals with four, adding eight points as well.   Senior guard Monica Muth led the team in assists with six, while adding seven rebounds and a block.  

Stat Pack: As a team Minnesota State is totaling 93 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 66. Additionally, the Mavericks snatched 50 rebounds and passed out 18 assists.

Scouting Northern Michigan: Northern Michigan is located in Marquette, Mich., and is currently 2-0 on the season. The Wildcats are members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC). Northern Michigan is led by head coach Troy Mattson who is in his 13th season with the Wildcats.

As a team this season, the Wildcats net 63.0 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 58.5. Northern Michigan also snatches 34.0 rebounds and dishes out 9.0 assists per contest. 

This game will mark the third all-time meeting between these two programs, the last of which was a Maverick 78-69 win in 2001.  The series is currently tied 1-1.  

Scouting Michigan Tech: Michigan Tech is located in Houghton, Mich., and is currently 2-0 on the season. The Huskies are members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC). Michigan Tech is led by head coach Sam Hoyt who is in her first year as the Huskies coach.  

As a team this season, the Huskies net 85.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 52. Michigan Tech also grabs 40.0 rebounds and dishes out 22.5 assists per contest. 

This game will mark the ninth all-time meeting between these two programs and the Mavericks own a 5-3 record in the previous games, the last of which was a Minnesota State 77-73 win in 2015.  

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return home to face Bethany Lutheran College Monday Nov. 26, at 6:00 p.m., after this weekend's road trip.
