Bemidji, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball (14-7, 7-6 NSIC) team traveled to Bemidji, Minn., to face the Bemidji State Beavers (5-16, 2-11 NSIC), and swept the match 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-18).
The opening points of the first set were back and forth before the Mavericks capitalized on a ballhandling error to take a 13-11 edge. Coming out of a Bemidji State timeout, Minnesota State extended their lead behind a 4-0 run. The Beavers couldn't't cut into the early lead and the Mavericks ultimately took the set 25-15.
In the second set it was Bemidji State who scored an early advantage, forcing Minnesota State to use a timeout down 11-8. Coming out of the timeout the momentum shifted dramatically as the Mavericks jumped ahead to a 20-17 lead which they held to take the set 25-23 and earned a 2-0 lead in the match.
Carrying all the momentum from the first two sets, the Mavericks took an early edge in the third set and carried it to a 25-18 win and sweep of the match.Â
Morgan Olson led all players with thirteen kills and added a pair of blocks.Â
Alivia Garbe and
Mara Quam each had ten digs in the match while
Micayla Porter led the Mavericks with 19 assists.
Next weekend the Mavericks will return home to face Minnesota Duluth Friday, Oct. 19
th, at 6:00 p.m. before hosting St. Cloud State Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
