Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (15-9, 8-8 NSIC) fell to the Duluth Bulldogs (20-4, 13-2 NSIC) Friday night at Taylor Center, by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16).
The first set saw the Mavericks jump out to an early 6-2 lead before the Bulldogs called their first timeout. The set quickly grew close as both teams made runs leading to a 16-16 tie. After an 8-5 run, the Mavericks were forced call another timeout with the score 24-21. The Bulldogs,
behind Abby Thor's 5 kills got UMD the first set victory.
The second set was even in the early going before the Bulldogs went on a 7-1 run that gave them a 17-11 lead. The deficit proved too much to overcome, and Minnesota Duluth eventually took the set 25-20 to give themselves a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, the Bulldogs again went on an early run to gain a 10-5 advantage that they ultimately carried to a 25-16 set win, and a 3-0 win over Minnesota State.
Morgan Olson led the Mavericks with 11 kills in the match with a .368% attack average.
Mara Quam led the team in digs with 13 while
Micayla Porter led the Mavericks in assists with 13.
Saturday, October 20th, the Mavericks will host to St. Cloud State in Mankato, Minn. at 2:00 p.m.
