Mavericks Fall in Overtime to #5 Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio. --- Minnesota State's goal from forward Tristan Truax was not enough as MSU loses 2-1 in overtime to #5 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.

The Mavericks tied the Buckeyes at one in the second period after the Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead before allowing a goal late in overtime to OSU.

The Buckeyes started off fast with Liz Schepers netting a goal 1:21 into the game. The Mavericks battled back and played an even period with the Buckeyes as each team had 10 shots on goal with the early goal being the only difference.

In the second period the Mavericks showed some grit as they outshot the Buckeyes 18-10. One of those shots found the back of the net as sophomore forward Tristen Truax scored her first goal of the season at the 7:38 mark. Senior forward Jordan McLaughlin and freshman defenseman Anna Wilgren garnered an assist on the goal.

Freshman goaltender Abigail Levy kept Minnesota State in the game during the third period as OSU outshot MSU 20-4, but Levy saved all 20 shots. The game went into overtime, but with 53 seconds remaining on the clock, the Buckeyes scored a game winner by Madison Field to end the game.

Levy ended the night with 42 saves on 44 opportunities in the loss.

The Mavericks (2-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) will return home next weekend as they take on St. Cloud State on Friday at 7:07 p.m.. and on Saturday at 3:07 p.m. with both game being at Verizon Center.
