St. Cloud, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey suffered a 5-0 setback against St. Cloud State in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play on Friday evening inside Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Minnesota State (3-17-1, 1-12-0-0 WCHA) and St. Cloud State (4-14-2, 2-11-2-0 WCHA) each tallied nine shots in the first period, but the Huskies scored the only two goals to put the Mavericks down 2-0 at the first intermission. The Huskies' goals were scored by
Laura Kluge and
Emma Bigham at 5:01 and 15:43, respectively.
After neither team scored in the second period, the Huskies added three more goals in the third period – making the final score 5-0. The goals were scored by
Kayla Friesen at 14:11,
Hallie Theodosopoulos at 18:30 and
Hannah Potrykus at 19:24.
Shots on goal were 34-23 in favor of St. Cloud State, including 16-8 in the third period.
Junior goaltender
Katie Bidulka (1-12-0) made 29 saves for the Mavericks, while
Emma Polusny (3-5-1) stopped 23 shots for the Huskies.
Both teams went 0-of-2 on the power play.
Minnesota State and St. Cloud State conclude their two-game WCHA series at 2:07 p.m., on Saturday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
