Fairbanks, Alaska --- The University of Alaska scored the first goal of the game, but Minnesota State proceeded to score the next five goals with the visiting Mavericks cruising to a 5-1 win in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Fairbanks Saturday.

Brad McClure scored twice for Minnesota State in the win and sophomore forward
Marc Michaelis chipped in with a goal and an assist.
As they did in Friday's 4-0 win, the host Nanooks scored the game's first goal when
Tyler Cline, stationed to the right of Maverick netminder
Connor LaCouvee, took a pass from
Nikolas Koberstein and scored a power play goal at the 2:51 mark of the opening period.
The Mavericks responded with three consecutive goals before the end of the first 20 minutes action in owning a 3-1 lead at the end of the period. Sophomore forward
Charlie Gerard, who had just jumped onto the ice following a line change, fired a shot low along the ice that beat
Anton Martinsson on the stickside at 10:11 to make it a 1-1 contest. Senior forward
Brad McClure got his fifth goal of the year when he scored on an odd-man rush at 16:19 and then registered his sixth of the year at 18:10 with a power play marker on a shot from the top of the right circle that found its way through some sticks and legs. The goal, which came on a power play, is the 40
th of McClure's career.
Minnesota extended its lead to 5-1 in the second period with a couple of power play markers. The first of which came off of the stick of sophomore forward
Marc Michaelis at 14:38 and another on a rocket from the point by junior defenseman
Daniel Brickley at 18:40.
Neither team scored in the third period as the Mavericks claimed the 5-1 win.
Minnesota State has three-of-ten in power play chances in the triumph. The Mavericks had 36 shots on goal, while the Nanooks totaled 17 shots. LaCouvee, who finished with 16 saves, stands 11-3-0 with tonight's victory.
Minnesota State, which now stands 17-7-0 overall and is 15-5-0 WCHA with tonight's wub, has gone 8-2 in its last ten games.
The Mavericks continue road action next weekend when they play a nonconference contest at St. Cloud State Saturday.
