Madison, Wis. --- Minnesota State women's hockey lost its Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener at No. 1 Wisconsin 6-0 inside LaBahn Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota State (3-19-1, 1-14-0-0 WCHA) was outscored by Wisconsin (22-1-0, 13-0-0-0 WCHA) 2-0 in the first period, 3-0 in the second and 1-0 in the third to make the final score 6-0.
The Badgers received goals from six different players.
Sam Cogan scored the eventual game-winning goal at 4:12 of the first period.
Brette Pettet scored the second goal at 14:14 of the first.
Cluadia Keppler,
Baylee Wellhausen and
Maddie Rowe each scored in the second period at 3:57, 6:13 and 8:31, respectively. Keppler's goal came on the power play. The final goal of the day was scored by
Alexis Mauermann at 4:55 of the third period.
Shots on goal were 42-16 in favor of Wisconsin. Minnesota State was led in shots by freshman forward
Brittyn Fleming, who fired five pucks on net.
Junior goaltender
Katie Bidulka (1-14-0) made 16 saves for the Mavericks. Sophomore
Chloe Crosby made 20 saves – in relief of Bidulka – over the final 31:29 of the game.
Kristen Campbell (22-1-0) made 16 saves for the Badgers to record the shutout.
The Mavericks went 0-of-2 on the power play and the Badgers finished 2-of-5.
Minnesota State and Wisconsin wrap up their two-game WCHA series at 1:07 p.m., on Sunday at LaBahn Arena.
