Mankato, Minn. --- No. 12 Minnesota State baseball swept a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader with Upper Iowa at MSU Baseball Complex on Friday.
The Mavericks (36-7, 31-3 NSIC) defeated Upper Iowa (18-24, 14-20 NSIC) 17-7 in game one and 6-4 in game two to extend their winning streak to eight games.

Eric Peterson scored three runs in the twin bill to increase his program record for career runs scored to 211.
GAME 1 – No. 12 Minnesota State 17, Upper Iowa 7
Minnesota State's offense erupted for 17 runs in their 17-7 game one win over Upper Iowa.
The Peacocks scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second, but the Mavericks scored the next 13 runs – two in the second, eight in the third and three in the fourth – to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 13-2 lead. The Peacocks fought back with two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Mavericks responded with four runs in the bottom half to make the score 17-4. Upper Iowa scratched out three more runs in the top of the sixth to make the final score 17-7 in a scheduled seven-inning game.
In the Mavericks' eight run second inning, junior first baseman
Dylan Dresel tallied a grand slam for his team-leading 10th home run of the season – a career high for home runs in a single season. Four other Mavericks joined Dresel in driving in multiple runs: senior third baseman

Brody Rodning (6-2) picked up the win for the Minnesota State – holding Upper Iowa to four earned runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Zackary Cain (3-5) was charge with the loss for the Peacocks after surrendering nine runs – all earned on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out one.
GAME 2 – No. 12 Minnesota State 6, Upper Iowa 4
Junior left-hander
Aaron Rozek pitched 3 1/3 shut-out innings in relief as Minnesota State pulled off a 6-4 come-from-behind win in game two with Upper Iowa.
The game remained scoreless until the 5th inning when the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead an RBI single by senior
Eric Peterson that chased home junior shortstop
Luke Waldek.
However the Peacocks responded with four runs in the top of the 6th – chasing the Mavericks' senior right-handed starting pitcher
Mitchell Bauer from the game and taking a 4-1 lead.
Rozek (3-1) shut Upper Iowa down in the final 3 1/3 innings – holding the Peacocks to three hits, while striking out six and walking none. Rozek has yet to allow an earned run in 23 2/3 innings in 2017.
The Mavericks started their comeback when sophomore right fielder
Jordan Hart hit a solo homer – his eighth of the season – in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the Peacocks' lead to 4-2.
The Mavericks scored four runs in the seventh to tie the game and then take a 6-4 lead. With Waldek and junior catcher
Ryan Moffett on base, junior center fielder
Josh Wenzel hit a two-RBI double to tie the game at 4-4. Junior first baseman
Dylan Dresel then hit a two-run single that scored Wenzel and Peterson to give the Mavericks the 6-4 lead.
Rozek did the rest as the Mavericks held on for the 6-4 victory.
Bauer, who allowed four runs – all earned – on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, did not factor into the decision. He struck out five and walked one.
Tyus Adkins (1-6), who allowed six runs – five earned – on eight hits over seven innings, was charged with the loss. He struck out five and walked one.
Minnesota State and Upper Iowa conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader slated for noon on Saturday. The Mavericks will be celebrating senior day.
