WINONA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team fell to the Winona State Warriors Friday evening by the score of 5-4.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 1-3 on the season, including a 1-2 NSIC record. With the win, the Warriors improve to 3-0 on the season, including a 3-0 record in conference action.
The Mavericks went 1-2 in doubles action to begin the dual. The team of senior

Monika Ryan defeated Kendra Kappes and Katie Scruggs 9-8 (9-7) in the No. 3 doubles match. Senior
Kelly Lechowski and freshman
Kelly Spielman nearly won the No. 2 doubles match but they fell to Rachel Gantz and Kaisey Skibba 9-7.
The Mavericks managed to win three of the singles matches, but the Warriors were able to match them as they came away with the 5-4 win.
Lechowski and senior Melissa Mashburn won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively, with identical scores of 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Erin Streeter claimed MSU's other singles victory as she defeated Skibba by the score of 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) in the No. 1 singles match.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday as they take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks in Winona, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
