SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team bounced back with a 9-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Cougars Sunday morning.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 1-2 on the season, including a 1-1 NSIC record. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-1 on the season, including a 1-1 conference record.
Minnesota State began the dual winning all three of the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The team of senior
Melissa Mashburn and sophomore
Erin Streeter defeated the duo of Tianna Duda and Kylie Simons by the score of 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match, while senior
Abby Schmidt and freshman
Monika Ryan defeated Kelsie Sanders and Cortney McCans 8-1 in the third doubles match. Senior
Kelly Lechowski and freshman
Kelly Spielman bested Kara Bunkers and Abby Seigenthaler 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match as well.
The Mavericks then swept the six singles matches to complete the 9-0 sweep.
Streeter defeated Simmons 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, while Lechowski turned in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Duda in the No. 2 singles match. Ryan bested Sanders 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth singles match, while junior
Lisa Dobbelaere swept Seigenthaler by the scores of 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match. Schmidt posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marie Schmit in the sixth singles match, while Mashburn defeated Bunkers 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) in the No. 3 singles match.
The Mavericks continue their road swing on Friday as they take on Winona State at 7:00 p.m.
