Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey held a 36-17 edge in shots on goal, but suffered a 4-1 setback against Lindenwood in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon at Verizon Center.
 
With the loss, Minnesota State (3-14-1) split its two-game series with Lindenwood (4-11-1).
 
After neither team scored in the first period, Lindenwood scored the first two goals of the second period to take a 2-0 lead over Minnesota State. The goals were scored by 
Sierra Burt at 12:26 and 
Britannia Gillanders at 13:18. However, the Mavericks fought back and senior forward 
Hannah Davidson scored her second goal of the series – her fourth of the season – at 14:33 of the period to make the score 2-1 going into the second intermission. Senior forward 
Sara Bustad and sophomore defenseman 
Jordan Jackson assisted on the play.
 
The Mavericks outshot the Lions 11-6 in the third period, but were unable to score and the Lions capitalized on two of their opportunities to make the final score 4-1. 
Kirsten Martin scored the final two goals for Lindenwood at 2:04 and 8:37 of the third period.   
 
Sophomore goaltender 
Chloe Crosby (2-4-1) made 13 saves for the Mavericks and 
Jolene DeBruyn (2-9-1) stopped 35 shots for the Lions.
 
Neither team scored on the power play. The Mavericks went 0-of-5 and the Lions finished 0-of-2.
 
Freshman forward 
Brittyn Fleming led Minnesota State in shots on goal with eight.
 
Minnesota State wraps up 2017 with a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series next weekend at Bemidji State. The games are scheduled for 3:07 p.m., on both Friday and Saturday.
