Mankato, Minn. --- No. 13 Minnesota State soccer extended its program record shutout streak to 11 matches with a 3-0 win over MSU Moorhead on Sunday afternoon at The Pitch.
Minnesota State (12-1-1, 10-0-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) got on the scoreboard in the 30th minute when junior forward Julia Zach sent a pass onto the foot of junior forward Lauren Kizlik, who put the ball past MSU Moorhead's goalkeeper, Corina Edgington (0-6-2), for her fourth goal of the season.
Minnesota State extended its lead in the 63rd minute when sophomore forward Dakota Wendell passed the ball into the box to freshman midfielder Molly Riley. Riley sent the ball to Zach, who finished for her first goal of the day.
Minnesota State increased its lead to 3-0 in the 83rd minute when Riley sent the ball to Zach, who scored her second goal of the day and her fourth of the season to lead all players with five points. Riley recorded her second assist of the match — a new career high.
The Mavericks, who held a 25-1 edge in shots on goal, cruised to the 3-0 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Livermore (7-0-0) recorded her seventh shutout of the season – the 10th of her career – for Minnesota State. Edgington made 22 saves in net for MSU Moorhead.
Minnesota State returns to action at University of Mary in an NSIC match on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., in Bismarck, N.D.
