Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey lost to No. 1 Wisconsin 3-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association matchup on Saturday afternoon at Verizon Center.
Wisconsin (8-0-0, 2-0-0-0 WCHA scored the first two goals of the game in the first period to go up 2-0. Claudia Kepler got the Badgers on the scoreboard at 13:03, and Brette Pettet added a goal at 14:41 on a 6-on-4 power play. However, junior forward Rebekah Kolstad answered back for Minnesota State (1-4-1, 0-2-0-0 WCHA) with her first goal as a Maverick at 14:41 of the first period – making the score 2-1. Kolstad's goal was assisted by junior forward Emily Antony and freshman forward Brittyn Fleming, who recorded her team-leading fifth assist.
After neither team scored in the second period, Wisconsin capped off the scoring when Maddie Rowe scored at 16:52 of the third period. The Mavericks were unable to score again and the game ended with the score 3-1.
Junior Katie Bidulka (1-3-0) made 31 saves in net for the Mavericks, while Kristen Campbell (8-0-0) stopped 15 shots for the Badgers.
Minnesota State finished 0-of-5 on the power play and Wisconsin finished 1-of-5.
Wisconsin held a 34-16 advantage in shots on goal.
Minnesota State returns to Verizon Center to begin a two-game WCHA series with St. Cloud State at 2:07 p.m., on Oct. 27.
