Minnesota State Falls 4-0 to No. 10 North Dakota in Series Finale

Brianna Quade Makes 29 Saves for Mavericks

Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State surrendered three first period goals and was unable to recover as it lost 4-0 to No. 10 North Dakota in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Saturday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Center.

Senior goaltender Brianna Quade (3-12-2) made 29 saves for the Mavericks (6-17-2, 3-13-1-0 WCHA) on the afternoon.

North Dakota (12-7-5, 8-5-4-2 WCHA) put the game out of reach early – scoring three first period goals to go up 3-0. Senior defenseman Jordan Hampton (4-4--8) scored the first goal of the game at 2:12 of the period. Senior forward Kayla Gardner (4-8--12) and senior defenseman Gracen Hirschy (4-11--15) assisted on the play. The Fighting Hawks second goal came on a penalty shot by Ryleigh Houston (6-12--18) at 8:34 of the period. Senior forward Amy Menke (7-11--18) scored the third goal of the period at 17:47. Senior defenseman Halli Krzyaniak (4-10--14) and Houston picked up helpers on the goal.

Sophomore forward Rebekah Kolstad (4-3--7) increased the North Dakota lead to 4-0 with a goal at 4:31 of the second period. Hirschy and Houston assisted on the play.

The Mavericks garnered 22 shots on goal, including seven shots in the third period, but were unable to solve the Fighting Hawks' freshman goaltender Kristen Campbell (1-1-0).   

The Mavericks finished 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Fighting Hawks finished 1-of-4 with the man advantage.  

Minnesota State returns to action when it faces St. Cloud State at 3:07 p.m., on Friday in St. Cloud, Minn.
