Mavericks Win Overtime Thriller 2-1 In Season Opener

Emily Antony Scores Game-Winning Goal for Minnesota State

Mankato, Minn. --- Sophomore Emily Antony scored a power play goal with 0:40 remaining in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory for Minnesota State women's hockey in its season opener against RIT on Friday night at Verizon Wireless Center.

The Mavericks (1-0-0) were on the attack early -- outshooting the Tigers (0-1-0) 9-3 in the first period. Minnesota State got on the scoreboard first when junior Lindsey Coleman scored the fourth goal of her collegiate career at 18:46. Junior Anna Keys and sophomore Corbin Boyd assisted on the play.

RIT fought back in the second period and played the Mavericks even. Both teams tallied nine shots in the period. Each team had three power play opportunities in the period, but neither side was able to capitalize.

Minnesota State upped its intensity in the third period as the Mavericks outshot the Tigers 17-10. However, RIT's goalie Terra Lanteigne (0-1-0) stopped all of Minnesota State's attempts to expand on its lead, and Caitlin Wallace scored the Tigers' lone goal at 4:20 to tie the game and force overtime.

In overtime, Senior Savannah Quandt nearly ended the game on a deflection attempt, but her redirect hit the post. With only 40 seconds remaining in overtime, Antony received a pass from Keys and beat Lanteigne to earn the win for the Mavericks at 4:20. Keys garnered her second assist of the game -- the 16th of her career -- and senior Anna Fiegert recorded her 15th-career assist.

Senior Brianna Quade (1-0-0) made 22 saves in goals for Minnesota State, while Lantiegne stopped 36 shots for RIT.

The Mavericks scored one power play goal -- the game winner -- on four power play opportunities. Minnesota State held The Tigers scoreless in five power play chances.

Minnesota State faces RIT for the second and final game between the two teams at Verizon Wireless Center on Saturday at 2:07 p.m.
