Maverick’s Season Ends With 6-0 Loss to #3 Badgers in Madison Saturday

The Mavericks finish their season with a 3-29-4 overall record

Box Score MADISON, Wis. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team was defeated Saturday afternoon by Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.  The Badgers scored two goals in the first period and never looked back.

Minnesota State's season came to a close at La Bahn Arena in front of the sellout crowd of 2,273.  The Maverick's record finalized at 3-29-4 (0-25-3 WCHA) in 2015-16 action.

Just over six and a half minutes in to the first frame was what it took for the third-rated Badgers to pick up from Friday evening's game.  At 6:47, Sophia Shaver skated the puck across the slot and snapped one on net. Baylee Wellhausen put another shot on net before she was able to bat in her own rebound to put Wisconsin up 1-0.  Sydney McKibbon capped off the first-frame scoring, putting in a rebound with 9.4 seconds on the clock.  Minnesota State goaltender, junior Brianna Quade recorded 15 saves on 17 Badger shots in the first 20 minutes while Badger goaltender, Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped all three Maverick attempts on her way to her 18th shutout of the season.

Wisconsin tallied their third goal of the game half way through the second period when Mellissa Channell released a slapshot from the left point. The puck hit the back of the net at 9:58 of the period, beating Quade glove-side for her third goal of the season.  Quade added 11 more saves in the frame for a total of 26 through the first 40 minutes.

The Badgers put the game out of reach 22 seconds into the third period when Annie Pankowski drove to the middle of the ice, and then passing to an open Emily Clark at the bottom of the left circle, to tap home for her 22nd of the season.. Wisconsin added two more goals in the frame from Pankowski at 2:46 with her 21st of the year and Jenny Ryan at 5:01 for her seventh of the season.

Quade was relieved of duties in the third period, recording 29 saves in the contest. Sophomore goaltender Katie Bidulka entered the game and collected six saves.
