SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team got back on track Sunday afternoon as the Mavericks completed a 9-0 sweep of Winona State.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-3 on the season, including a 3-2 record in NSIC action. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 2-3, including a 2-2 conference record.
MSU began the day winning all three of the doubles matches. Senior
Sarah McCann and sophomore
Killian Doran turned in an 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match, while the team of junior
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Erin Streeter claimed an 8-3 victory in the second doubles match. Sophomore
Lisa Dobbelaere and junior
Abby Schmidt added an 8-1 win in the No. 3 doubles match as well.
The Mavericks would go on to complete the sweep as they won all six singles matches to secure the 9-0 win.
Mashburn defeated Justine Daane 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 10-6 in the first singles match, while Streeter notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rachel Gantz in the No. 2 singles contest. Doran and Dobbelaere would each post 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively, while McCann bested Lauren Willkom 6-0, 6-1 in the fourth singles match. Schmidt defeated Melissa Boehmke 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles match to complete the sweep.
The Mavericks return to action on the road Saturday as they take on MSU Moorhead. The dual is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
