ST. PETER, Minn. --- It was proved to be a close encounter Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, but the Minnesota State women's tennis team was able to rally in the singles matches to defeat Sioux Falls 5-4.
With the win, MSU improves to 3-1 on the season, including a 2-0 NSIC record. With the loss, USF falls to 2-2, including a 0-1 league record.
The Cougars were able to win two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. The team of junior

Erin Streeter defeated Joey Wenborg and Kara Bunkers 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match. The first doubles match saw senior

Killian Doran fall to Alison Krauss and Emily Erickson by the score of 8-6.
The Mavericks were able to rally during the singles matches as they won four, including two in three sets, to claim a 5-4 dual victory.
Streeter won the No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-3 over Krauss, while junior Abby Schmidt defeated Kylie Simons 7-5, 7-5 in the sixth singles match. Doran would claim a win over Erickson in the third singles match by the scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-6, while McCann defeated Stacey Beard 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 in the No. 4 singles match.
The Mavericks continue conference action Sunday as they host Augustana, at 8:30 a.m.
