Crookston, Minn. --- Senior
Kiana Nickel scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to lead Minnesota State women's soccer to a 4-0 win over Minnesota Crookston in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Nickel gave the Mavericks (5-3-1, 4-2-0 NSIC) an early lead over the Golden Eagles (2-7-1, 1-5-1 NSIC) when she scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 8th minute. She added her second goal -- her fourth of the season -- on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Nickel also recorded an assist to total five points on the day -- moving her into a tie with Brittany Henry (2009-12) for sixth place on the Mavericks' career points list with 89. Â
Sophomore
Morgan Cottew and freshman
Taylor Kenealy each contributed one goal in the victory. Cottew, who has scored in five of the Mavericks last six matches, scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season -- the 15th of her career -- in the 37th minute. Kenealy added her 5th goal of the season in the 14th minute and her second assist of 2016 on Cottew's score. Â
Sophomore
Abby Hausken garnered her first assist of the season on Nickel's first goal of the match.Â
Minnesota State outshot Minnesota Crookston 16-5, including an 11-4 shot on goal advantage.
Freshman
Ryann Rydeen (2-0-0), who started in goal for the second time this season, made four saves to earn the win for the Mavericks.
Lexie Gauger (2-5-1) made six saves in 84 minutes played for the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota State returns home to face Wayne State on Friday at 1:00 p.m., at The Pitch.
