Mavericks to Face Cougars in Opening Round of NSIC Tournament

MANKATO, Minn. --- Behind its 7-4 conference record, the Minnesota State women's tennis team has been named the No. 4 seed in the NSIC Tournament and will take on fifth-seeded Sioux Falls in the first round.

The two-day NSIC Tournament will begin on Friday, April 25 and will take place at the Lifetime Fitness Oakdale (Tennis Village) in Minnetonka, Minn. The Mavericks and Cougars will square off at 4:30 p.m.

The Mavericks finished their regular season schedule with a 7-9 overall record, including a 7-4 league record. MSU has won three out of its last four duals, including a pair of wins against Minnesota Crookston (9-0) and Bemidji State (8-1) in its most recent outings.

The Cougars boast a 9-7 overall record and a 7-4 league record. USF has also won three out of its last four duals including wins against Minnesota Duluth (8-1) and St. Cloud State (9-0).

Earlier this season, MSU defeated USF 6-3 in St. Peter, Minn. The Mavericks earned two victories in doubles competition, before winning four of the sixth singles matches. Three of MSU's four singles wins came in the deciding third set.  

Should the Mavericks defeat the Cougars, they would take on the winner of the dual between Augustana and Winona State in the second round of the NSIC Tournament on Sunday, April 26, at 8 p.m., with the championship round scheduled to follow at 12 p.m.
