BEMIDJI, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team ended its regular season schedule on a high note as it defeated Bemidji State 8-1 in Bemidji, Minn.
With the win, MSU ends its regular season with a 7-9 overall record, including a 7-4 NSIC record. With the loss, BSU falls to 4-10 on the season, including a 3-9 league record.
The Mavericks began the day winning all three of the doubles matches. The team of freshman
Killian Doran and junior
Sarah McCann defeated Shaylin Prout and Deanie Hatch in the No. 1 doubles match 9-7. Sophomore
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Destiny Lee posted an 8-1 victory in the second doubles match against Caley Westin and Rachel Franklin, while freshmen
Andrea Erdman and
Lisa Dobbelaere defeated Claudia Bellew and Sabrina Okeson 8-6 in the third doubles match.
The Mavericks went on to win five of the six singles matches to secure the win.
Mashburn earned a 6-2, 7-5 win in the second singles match over Hatch, while McCann claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third singles match against Westin. Lee bested Bellew 6-0, 6-0 in the third singles match, before Dobbelaere defeated Franklin 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles match. Erdman won the sixth singles match for the Mavericks as she defeated Justine Scheller 3-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The Mavericks will wait to see who they will face in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. The tournament will take place in Minnetonka, Minn., and is scheduled to begin on April 25.
