ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis lost a close one Sunday afternoon as it fell to St. Cloud State 6-3.
With the loss, MSU now owns a 5-9 overall record and a 5-4 NSIC record. With the loss, SCSU drops to 7-8 on the season, including a 5-3 league record.
MSU began the day winning two of the three doubles matches. Freshman
Killian Doran and junior
Sarah McCann defeated Abigail Kantor and Alexie Portz in the No. 1 doubles match by the score of 8-5. Sophomore
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Andrea Erdman bested El O'Brien and Marilia Diversi in the second doubles match by the score of 8-4.
SCSU was able to rally in the singles matches as it won five of the matches, en route to a 6-3 win. Doran topped O'Brien in the No. 1 singles match by the scores of 6-4, 6-3. Mashburn lost in three sets to Kantor 4-6, 6-4, 12-10, before McCann fell in three sets to Diversi by the scores of 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
The Mavericks return to action on the road on Saturday, April 11, as they take on Bemidji State. The dual is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
