COLUMBUS, Ohio --- Ohio State jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play and Minnesota State was never able to find a rhythm as the Buckeyes defeated the Mavericks ,6-0, Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
Minnesota State's record falls to 3-25-1 overall and 1-21-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Buckeyes improve to 16-11-3 and 11-10-3 in the WCHA.
In the first period the game would remain scoreless until the Buckeyes scored at 14:33 to take a 1-0 lead. OSU added another even-strength goal 31 seconds later, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
During the middle period OSU tallied a power play goal 18 seconds in to increase their lead to 3-0. OSU later added two more goals, both off the stick of Katie Matheny, to lead 5-0 after two full periods of play.
In the final period the Buckeyes scored on a delayed penalty called on senior
Kathleen Rogan to win by a final score of 6-0.
The Mavericks were outshot by the Buckeyes, 38-15, and senior
Erin Krichiver recorded 32 saves. MSU went 0-2 on the power play while OSU was 1-6 with the extra skater advantage.
Minnesota State will continue play next Friday (7:07 p.m.) and Saturday (2:07 p.m.) as they host Bemidji State at All Seasons Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.
