WINONA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team ended its weekend on a high note as it defeated Winona State by the score of 7-2.
With the win, MSU improves to 3-2 both on the season and in conference action. With the loss, WSU falls to 3-2 on the season, including a 3-1 NSIC record.
The Mavericks began the day winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Destiny Lee won the No. 2 doubles match by the score of 8-6, while freshmen
Lisa Dobbelaere and
Andrea Erdman won the third doubles match by the score of 8-2.
MSU finished the day winning five of the six singles matches to secure the 7-2 win. Freshman
Killian Doran won the first single match in straight sets by the scores of 7-5, 6-2, while Mashburn won the No. 2 singles match 4-6, 6-1, 11-9.
Lee, Dobbelaere and Erdman would win the final three singles matches in straight sets as Lee won the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1, while Dobbelaere took the fifth singles match 6-4, 6-3. Erdman took home the sixth singles match by the scores of 6-2, 6-3 as well.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday as they take on the University of Mary in St. Peter, Minn., at 7 p.m.
