Grand Forks, N.D. --- No. 7/8 North Dakota came out firing on all cylinders Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks as they defeated Minnesota State by a final score of 7-0
North Dakota scored three even strength goals in the first period to lead 3-0 after one period of play. The first came at 2:06 of the opening period after Becca Kohler stole the puck and scored unassisted. UND struck again at 6:20 when Samantha Hansen hammered one home from the top of the right circle. A few minutes later at 11:39, Josefine Jakobsen set up Andrea Dalen right out in front and Dalen snuck one in to increase UND's lead. In the first period North Dakota outshot Minnesota State 12-4.
UND added one more goal in the second period to increase its lead to 4-0. This one came unassisted off the stick of Josefine Jakobsen who backhanded one from the slot to beat MSU netminder Brianna Quade glove side.
In the final period North Dakota added three more goals, including one on the power play, to bring the game to a final score of 7-0.
Quade pushed aside 43 UND shots as MSU was outshot 50-9 on the night. The Mavericks went 0-2 on the power play while UND was 1-5
Minnesota State (3-29-1, 1-25-1 WCHA) and No. 7/8 North Dakota (19-11-3, 15-9-3 WCHA) will both finish off the regular season tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. inside Ralph Engelstad Arena.
