#1-Rated Mavericks and Nanooks Battle to 1-1 Overtime Tie Friday

     Fairbanks, Alaska --- Top-rated Minnesota State and the University of Alaska battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played in Fairbanks Friday evening.

Senior forward Max Gaede ripped a backhander past Nanook netminder Sean Cahill at 7:24 of the first to make it 1-0 Minnesota State to open the scoring. Gaede, who was playing in his 142nd career game, now has four goals in 2014-15.

Alaska responded with the only goal of the second period when Tyler Morley deflected Colton Parayko's shot from the point past Stephon Williams at the 10:49 mark with the Nanooks on the power play.

Although both teams had quality scoring chances in the third period and in the overtime session.

Minnesota State, which converted on zero-of-six chances on the power play, were outshot by Alaska by a 30-18 margin in the game as junior netminder Stephon Williams now stands 19-3-2 for the year  The marked only the third time this year the Mavericks have been outshot in a game. The Mavericks, who are now 1-1-2 in overtime games on the season, totaled six penalties for 12 minutes.  Alaska had eight penalties for 38 minutes.

The Mavericks are now 22-5-2 on the season (19-2-2 WCHA) with tonight's tie. Alaska stands 14-13-2 (9-12-2 WCHA).

Minnesota State and Alaska close out the two-game league series Saturday with a 10:07 p.m. CST face-off scheduled at Carlson Center.
