Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team beat Winona State on Friday night at Taylor Center, in overtime fashion, by the score of 71-66.
With five minutes remaining in the second half, the Mavericks were trailing, 58-49, to the Warriors, with 4:59 left to play. After that point, MSU managed to go on a 11-2 run to tie the game up at 60-60, with 2:27 left in the second half. After a pair of made free-throws from both teams, the game went into overtime at 62-62.
In overtime, the Mavericks would quickly build a 67-62 lead over the Warriors, with 3:08 remaining in regulation. However, the Warriors wouldn't go away quietly as they posted the next four points, to push the score to 67-66, with 1:06 left on the clock.
The next possession for the Mavericks, sophomore guard
Sammie Delzotto would put nail in the coffin for MSU, as she was able to hit a jumper right at the top of the key, while the shot clock buzzer went off. The basket put, the Mavericks up 69-66 with 33 seconds left in overtime.
The Warriors were unable to hit their three-point attempt on the next possession, which led to a 71-66 MSU win over WSU.
With the win, the Mavericks record improves to 17-7 overall and 14-5 in conference play.
To start the game, Winona State would come out of the gates fast, as the Warriors built a 15-6 advantage over the Mavericks, after the first media timeout with 14:03 left in the first half. WSU would continue to build its lead over MSU for the next five minutes, to a 24-12 advantage at the 9:51 mark of the first half.
The Mavericks would eventually cut into the Warriors lead, as MSU went on a little 8-2 run, to trim WSU's lead to six, 26-20, with 6:20 left in the half. Although for the final six minutes of the first half, the Warriors finished on a 9-2 to run themselves. WSU went into halftime leading, 35-22 over the Mavericks.
MSU in the first half shot just 30% from field, whereas WSU shot 48%. The Mavericks were also outrebounded by the Warriors in the first half, 21-15.

Britney Scherber each posted five points themselves.
In the second half of play, the Maverick managed to shoot slightly better at 35%, while the Warriors shot just 27% from the field. MSU was also able to hit five three-pointers in the half and forced nine WSU turnovers, while MSU coughed it up just four times.
Senior guard
Aubrey Davis and Delzotto each finished with 21 points a piece, as Davis also posted seven boards, seven assists, and 8-8 from the free-throw line, while Delzotto recorded four boards and two steals. Bresnahan ended the game with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while senior forward
Lexie Ulfers fell just short of a double-double, with eight points and eight boards in the overtime win.
The Mavericks will take on Upper Iowa at home on Saturday, for their final home regular season game of the season. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be "Senior Day" for MSU.
