Marquette, Mich.  --- Minnesota State handily outshot Northern Michigan Friday night as the two teams battled to a 1-1 overtime draw in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Marquette, Mich.
The Mavericks, who split a pair of nonconference games with Minnesota last weekend and now have gone 6-2-1 in their last nine games, owned a 31-15 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
Neither team was able to dent the twine in the first period, but sophomore forward 
Brad McClure got things going for the Mavericks when he beat 
Atte Tolvanen glove side at 8:10 of the second period for his second goal of the year. 
Michael Huntebrinker and 
Ryan Schwalbe drew assists on the goal as Minnesota State scored the first goal of the game for the third time this year. The Wildcats responded at 14:07 on a backhander from 
Cohen Adair with Northern Michigan on the power play.
The two teams battled through scoreless third and overtime periods and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Mavericks went zero-for-two in power play chances on the night (the Wildcats were one-for-two) and freshman 
Jason Pawloski turned aside 14 shots for Minnesota State in the contest in bringing his record to 4-0-0 for the year.
Minnesota State stands 6-6-1 overall and owns a 5-1-1 WCHA mark and concludes the two-game league set with Northern Michigan Saturday night.
