Sweet Sixteen Pits #9 Minnesota State Against Familiar Foe #8 Central Missouri

2015 marks the third time in the last four years that the Mavericks will play in the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Sweet Sixteen

What's on Tap: After scoring two goals in the second half of the NCAA Tournament second round match vs. #18 Augustana, Minnesota State makes the trek to Warrensburg, Mo., to take on No. 8 Central Missouri. The game is marked as the NCAA Central Region Championship match and is the second-consecutive year the two programs have met in this game. The game is scheduled for Friday November 20th at 2:30 p.m.

Minnesota State's record is now 18-1-2 on the 2015 season as they look to continue their winning ways against the Jennies. Minnesota State defeated UCM in the Central Region Championship in 2012 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Looking Back at Last Week: The Mavericks received a first-round bye in the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Central Region they acquired the number two seed in the Central Region. Minnesota State faced off with the third-seeded Augustana last Sunday in Mankato to find out who would advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The ninth-rated Mavericks scored two second-half goals to claim victory over the Vikings, led by senior Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.) who scored her 18th and 19th goals of the season.

The first half of action in Sunday's match against the Vikings proved its entertainment as both teams played aggressive defense not allowing the other to strike. In the second half of play, freshman Morgan Cottew (Minneapolis, Minn.) found Kronforst in stride who beat the Augustana defense and rifled a shot towards the right side of Viking goalkeeper, Taylor Machacek. The ball glanced off of the finger tips of Machacek before banking off the right post, giving Minnesota State a 1-0 lead at the 56:41 mark. Kronforst struck again as freshman Bri Lindstrom (Apple Valley, Minn.) crossed a ball from the right side into the Viking box to Cottew who tapped the ball to Kronforst to finish off the play.

Minnesota State finished the game holding an advantage in shots by a clip of 14-12 as well as shots on goal 6-3. MSU goalkeeper, senior Lauren Hoeppner (Lakeville, Minn.) finished the game generating three stops throughout the match and increased her record to 18-1-2 on the year. The shutout also marked her ninth scoreless game of 2015.

Scouting the Jennies: The University of Central Missouri received the No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Central Region Championship and owns a record of 20-2 in 2015. The Jennies won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Association regular season and tournament championships this season. Most recently they defeated the Minot State University 2-0 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Head coach Lewis Theobald is in his ninth year at the helm of the Jennies program and owns an overall record of 150-25-17. UCM has three players with 20 points or more led by Megan Woolley who has scored 27 points including 13 goals. Julie Ireland and Jada Scott are right behind her with 25 points each. Ireland has tallied 12 goals and one assist while Scott has produced 10 goals and five helpers. Sophomore Ana Dilkes has started every match in goal for the Jennies owning a goals against average of .37 and a .903 save percentage. She has also produced 12 shutouts.

As a team, the Jennies are outshooting their opponents 430-167. They are averaging 2.86 goals per game while allowing only .41 goals per game.

Inside the MSU vs. UCM Series: The Mavericks and the Jennies have met 11 times before with the Jennies holding the advantage at 5-4-2. Last season the Mavericks lost to Central Missouri 3-2 in overtime.

The Road Ahead: The winner of Friday's match will play the winner of the match between Ballarmine and Grand Valley State University on Sunday afternoon in Warrensburg, Mo.

Minnesota State in the NCAA Playoffs: MSU has made 10 appearances in the NCAA tournament (2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 2013, 2014, and 2015). They will be making their fifth-straight appearance and own an overall record of 5-8-3.

Program History: The 2015 season marks the 21st year of women's soccer as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU claimed its fourth-straight NSIC regular-season championship this year after capturing NCC regular-season crowns in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2007. The Mavericks currently hold a 278-111-29 (.700) all-time record and 81-11-8 (.850 all-time mark in six seasons in the NSIC). MSU has posted 17 consecutive winning seasons dating back to 1998.

Milestones: Senior Korey Kronforst moved into the number two spot on the Minnesota State all-time scoring charts this season with a total of 58 goals 22 assists for 138 points in her career. She also has produced a personal season high for goals, assists, and points in 2015 with 19 goals and 10 assists for 48 points. Kroforst is also now tied for most game-winning goals in career at MSU with 19. Freshman Morgan Cottew is now tied at for fourth on MSU's all-time points by a freshman chart with 24 including nine goals and six assists. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Hoeppner moved into the second spot for most wins in a season with 18 and into the third spot on for shutouts in a season with 12 this year.

NSCAA Rankings: Minnesota State is ranked 9th in the final installment of the regular season NSCAA poll after moving down from the #3 spot in the last edition November 4th.

Top-Notch Stats: As a team Minnesota State ranks sixth nationally in total goals per game (3.29), fifth in total goals (69), fourth in total points (212), and third in points per game (10.10).

Individually, Kronforst is tied for sixth in game-winning-goals with seven, alone in sixth for points with 48, and fifth in points per game with 2.53. Hoeppner is tied for eighth in save percentage at 88.6% and is tied for 18th in goals against average with .59 nationally.

Kronforst is also riding a six-game point streak in which she has produced eight goals and two assists for 18 points. She has scored in seven of the last eight games played, recording 20 points in that span.
