Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State was down by two goals heading into the third period, but stormed back with a pair of late goals to force overtime before claiming a road nonconference win at Minnesota in Minneapolis Saturday night.
Gopher forward
Justin Kloos one-timed a blast from the top of the left circle past
Jason Pawloski at 19:49 of the first period with Minnesota on the power play for the game's first goal. It became a 2-0 Minnesota lead at 18:58 of the second frame after
Tyler Sheehy deflected a shot from the point from
Jack Glover into the Maverick net.
The Mavericks, who absorbed a 4-0 shut-out to the Gophers the night before in Mankato, finally solved their offensive woes by scoring a pair of late goals in the final perioed.

Bryce Gervais deflected
Casey Nelson's shot from the point past
Eric Schierhorn at 16:28 of the third period. The tally is the fourth of the year for Gervais and his 55
th career marker and it allowed the Mavericks to pull within one. Senior forward
Brett Knowles took a feed from
Max Coatta and one-timed a shot past Schierhorn to tie the game at 19:15 with an extra attacker on the ice. The goal, the second of the season for Knowles, forced the game into overtime.
Then, in the extra session, senior forward
Teddy Blueger showed great patience in the offensive zone before skating to the front of the net and sliding the puck along the ice under Schierhorn's left pad for the game-winning goal at 4:17 for his third goal of the year. Blueger and Gervais both finished with a goal and an assist in the win.
The Maverick blue line corps took a hit during the course of the second period when senior
John Jutzi and sophomore
Jaden Schmeisser were both felled by Minnesota shots. Neither player returned following intermission and the Maverick coaching staff moved junior
Zach Stepan from forward to defense for the third period.
The Mavericks went zero-for-four in power play chances on the night (the Gophers were one-for-four) and freshman
Jason Pawloski turned aside 24 shots for Minnesota State in the contest in bringing his record to 3-0-0 for the year. The Mavericks owned a 31-26 shots on goal advantage in the game.
Minnesota State, which stands 6-6-0 overall and owns a 5-1-0 WCHA mark, resumes Western Collegiate Hockey Association next weekend with a two-game set at Northern Michigan.
