MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team opened its fall schedule on the right foot Wednesday as it defeated St. Olaf 5-4.
With the win, MSU improves to 1-0 on the season, while St. Olaf falls to 0-1.
The Mavericks began the dual winning two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. The duo of senior
Sarah McCann and freshman
Erin Streeter defeated Alisa Hall and Maya MacGibbon 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles match, while sophomores
Killian Doran and Lisa
Lisa Dobbelaere bested Kellis Brandt and Sarah Conlin-Brandenburg 8-3 in the third doubles match.
MSU and St. Olaf would then split the six singles matches, giving the Mavericks the 5-4 victory. Streeter defeated MacGibbon 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match, while Doran topped Erin McDonald 6-3, 6-5 in the fourth singles match. Dobbelaere won the fourth singles match against Brandt 6-3, 6-3 to help lock down the victory for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State concludes the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule Saturday as it plays host to the Emporia State Hornets. The dual is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
