Crookston, Minn. - The Minnesota State volleyball team earned a sweep win (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) over Minnesota Crookston on Friday night in Crookston, Minn. Junior
Krista Hassing [Blue Earth, Minn.] led the Mavericks with a match-high 18 kills and a .600 attack percentage, along with five total blocks in the win.
With the win, the Mavericks push their overall record to 15-8 overall and 9-6 in NSIC play.
In set one, UMC held its biggest lead midway through with a 12-9 lead over MSU. The Golden Eagles lead quickly evaporated as the Mavericks finished out the set on a 16-4 run to give them a 25-16 set one win.
The Mavericks tallied an impressive .375 attack percentage, while the Golden Eagles were kept to just a .028 attack percentage. Hassing dominated the set as she tallied seven kills, a .700 attack percentage and two total blocks. Junior
Sydney Geisness [St. Croix Falls, Wis.] added four more kills, while freshman
Autumn Risch collected 14 first set assists.
MSU led through all of the second set against UMC and won comfortably with a 25-17 win. The Purple and Gold finished the set with an outstanding .583 attack percentage on the Golden Eagles. Just like set one, Hassing posted similar numbers in set two with seven more kills, a .636 attack percentage and two total blocks. Junior
Courtney Anderson [Tripoli, Iowa] recorded three kills, while sophomore
Vikolia Meade [Solon, Iowa] pitched in with two kills of her own.
In the third and final frame of action it looked as though UMC might force a fourth set as it led 23-19 over MSU late in the set. However the Mavericks had different plans, as they closed out the set and match on a 6-0 run to give them a 25-23 third set victory. Hassing collected another four kills in the final set, while Anderson and junior
Lexi Platz [Lafayette, Minn.] each posted three kills apiece in the final frame of action.
Overall MSU accumulated a .391 attack percentage in the road win and also added 10 total team blocks, which marks as its sixth time this season reaching double-figures in total blocks.
Along with Hassing's 18 kills, four other Mavericks tallied five or more kills in the match. Anderson contributed with seven kills and five total blocks, while Platz and Geisness each recorded six kills in the match. Meade ended the match with five kills and two block, while Risch finished with a match-high 37 assists.
Risch also added nine digs to her stat line, while junior
Haley Fogarty [Belle Plaine, Minn.]posted match-high's of 16 digs and two service aces.
MSU will return to action on Saturday, as it will travel to Bemidji, Minn. to take on the Bemidji State Beavers at 4:00 p.m.
