Rochester, N.Y. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team flipped the switch after Friday night's loss to RIT, defeating the Tigers 4-2.

Minnesota State took the lead just six and a half minutes into Saturday afternoon's matchup. After a shot from sophomore Hannah Davidson (Kincardine, Ont.) that was blocked, freshman Lena Duesterhoeft (Munich, Germany) passed the puck over to fellow freshman Emily Harris (Littleton, Cole.) who ripped it past Tiger freshman goaltender Jenna Jonge for the first goal of her career. Not two minutes later, Davidson got the puck past Jonge for her first marker of the season at 8:35 of the period. Sophomore Anna Keys (Cottage Grove, Minn.) and senior Katie Johnson (Anoka, Minn.) picked up helpers on the goal as well. Keeping things rolling, sophomore Elin Johansson (Hudiksval, Sweden) notched Minnesota State's third goal of the game when she grabbed a pass from Davidson and Johnson at 12:52 of the period. Closing out the frame, Mallory Rushton cut MSU's lead to two by putting one by Maverick junior goaltender Brianna Quade (Newcastle, Ont.) on the power-play with 1:15 remaining in the first period.

In the second period, Minnesota State's lead was shortened to one goal as RIT was able to slide the puck past Quade for the second and last time of the day. At 14:56 of the period, Jess Paton took a pass from Carly Payerl and netted the puck to make things interesting at 3-2.

The final period would see one more Maverick goal as freshman Jordan McLaughlin (Grand Rapids, Minn.) netted her first career marker. The unassisted goal came at 10:48 of the period after two shot had been blocked by Tiger defenseman Lindsay Stenason.

At the end of the game, the Tigers outshot Minnesota State by a margin of 35-27 and held a 37-25 advantage in faceoffs. RIT's power-play proved to be effective as the Tigers went 1-7 while MSU went 0-3.

With the win, Quade's record increases to 2-1-1 on the season as she stopped 33 of 35 shots faced.

Minnesota State will return home October 9th and 10th as they host sixth-rated North Dakota at their new home, Verizon Wireless Center., Both games will be played at 2:07 p.m.
