#12 St. Cloud State Skates to 4-0 Win over #14 Mavericks Friday

       St. Cloud, Minn.  --- 14th-rated Minnesota State could not get untracked offensively in falling by a 4-0 margin to #12 St. Cloud State in nonconference men's hockey contest played in St. Cloud Friday.

The host Huskies took a 1-0 first period lead at 8:43 on an odd man rush opportunity.  Maverick netminder Cole Huggins was able to get his left pad on a shot from the left side by Joey Benik, but David Morley crashed the net for the rebound and found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.  At the 19:43 mark, Maverick sophomore Brad McClure took a penalty shot after a Husky player threw the puck while it was in the SCSU crease. McClure's shot was stopped by Charlie Lindgren and SCSU entered the locker room owning a 1-0 edge after the first period of play.

A blast from the point from SCSU defenseman Jimmy Schuldt beat Huggins high on the glove side at 10:55 and the Huskies owned a 2-0 lead after two periods of action

The Huskies scored twice in the third to close out the game. Patrick Russell jammed one in from the side at 10:39 and Kalle Kossila beat a screened Huggins with a shot from the wing at 14:32.

The Mavericks went zero-for- 1 in power play chances on the night, while SCSU was also zero-for-one with the man advantage in the game. St. Cloud State owned a 33-30 advantage in shots on goal in the game as Minnesota State junior netminderCole Huggins, who recorded 20 stops, saw his record for the season to 0-2-0.

Minnesota State, which stands 0-3-0 for the season closes out the two-game series with St. Cloud State Saturday night with a 7:07 face-off scheduled.
