#14 Mavericks Held Scoreless in Road Loss at #12 St. Cloud State Saturday

       St. Cloud, Minn.  --- For the second consecutive night 14th-rated Minnesota State could not generate the offense it needed with the Mavericks falling by a 3-0 margin to #12 St. Cloud State in nonconference men's hockey contest played in St. Cloud Saturday.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at 4:20 of the opening period when Patrick Russell's shot from the wing leaked through Cole Huggin's pads.

SCSU took a two-goal lead at 16:59 of the second period on a tap in by Robby Jackson at 16:59.  Huggins made the initial save off of Judd Peterson's shot from the right boards and after the puck bounced off a body in front. Jackson pushed it underneath Huggins for his third goal of the season.

The final scoring in the game came at 16:16 of the final stanza as Peterson connected on an empty-net opportunity.

The Mavericks went zero-for- three in power play chances on the night, while SCSU was zero-for-one with the man advantage in the game. Both teams put 24 in shots on goal in the game. Minnesota State junior netminder Cole Huggins, who recorded 21 stops, saw his record for the season dip to 0-4-0.

The loss marked the third game in a row that the Mavericks have been shut-out, marking the first time in the program's history that has occurred.

Minnesota State, which stands 0-4-0 for the season, begins Western Collegiate Hockey Association action next weekend with a road series at Bemidji State.
