Moorhead, Minn. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team beat MSU Moorhead on Saturday evening by the score of 73-62.
With the win, the Mavericks record improves to 14-6 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
At the first media timeout of the first half, the Mavericks and Dragons were all tied up at 12-12 with 13:02 left to play. Coming out of the timeout, the Mavericks managed to go on a little 8-0 run to make the score 20-12 in the Mavericks advantage. The Dragons would be able to cut the Mavericks lead down to four a couple of times throughout the rest of the first half, but the Mavericks went into halftime with a 36-29 lead over the Dragons.
At halftime, the Mavericks shot 48% from the field, including 45% (5-11) from three-point territory, while the Dragons shot 36% from the field. The Mavericks were also able to score nine points off the five Dragon first half turnovers and the purple and gold outscored the Dragons in the paint, 14-8.

Sammie Delzotto led the Mavericks in scoring at the break with eight points, as she was 2-2 from three. A quartet of Mavericks recorded six points of their own going into halftime, which included junior forward

Britney Scherber and seniors
Aubrey Davis and
Lexie Ulfers.
To begin the second half, the Dragons trimmed the Mavericks lead to two, 36-34, with 18 minutes remaining in the game. After that point, the Mavericks went on another 11-2 run for the next three minutes, to push the score to 47-36.
The Mavericks would eventually extend their lead to 15, 57-42, with 12:14 remaining in the game, until the Dragons came storming back. The Dragons managed to go on a 11-1 run themselves, to make the score 58-52 with 9:48 remaining.
From that point on, the Mavericks would hold strong, as the Dragons scored just 10 more points throughout the rest of the game. The Mavericks would come out victorious in the end over the Dragons by the score of 73-62.
In the second half, Delzotto added 13 more points to her stat sheet, to go along with four rebounds, while Ulfers recorded eight more points, five rebounds and two assists.
Overall, the Mavericks shot 41% from the floor and only committed six turnovers in the win. The Mavericks were also able to outscore the Dragons in the paint, 28-20 and points off turnovers, 15-9.
For the game, Delzotto scored a career-high 21 points and shot 3-4 from three, to go along her five boards and two assists on the night. Ulfers finished with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block, while Davis ended the game with 11 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Scherber pitched in nine points of her own, while Leloux tallied eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and one block in the game.
The Mavericks will return back to action on Friday at Taylor Center, as they will play host the University of Mary. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
